Russia has released an American who has been held in Russia for more than four years on charges of fighting as a mercenary in Ukraine, US special envoy Steve Witkoff announced during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in St Petersburg.
Stephen Kubard, a 74-year-old retired teacher from Michigan, was named by the US State Department as unjustly banned.

In a post on social networks on Wednesday, Trump declared that Hubard épsas has been released from prison at the request of President Donald J. Trump, personally addressed President Vladimir Putin during a telephone conversation last week. Stephen’s on his way home and he’ll be near his family soon.
Trump pointed out that the US had to give nothing to Russia in return, citing that this happened with respect to President Trump? And he added that the Hubard should have come back a long time ago through the Biden administration, which did nothing in its negotiations with the Kremlin.
Witkoff personally thanked Putin for the release of Hubbard, while Putin announced that Hubard was at St Petersburg’s Pulkovo Airport the same airport that Witkoff had arrived earlier Wednesday.
According to Russian state media, the decision to release Hubard was taken for humanitarian reasons.
CNN says he couldn’t confirm Kubard’s location immediately.
Prior to Witzkoff’s trip to Moscow, an American official stated that the visit by special envoy APU expected to include attempts to ensure the release of American national Hubard, who was unjustly detained; this reflects President Trump’s continued commitment to return Americans to home. /Telegraphy/
