Israel’s elections, Netanyah loses parliamentary majority

According to recent media projections Channel 12 and Yenet, Netanyah’s bloc is expected to win 55 seats, marking the 68 seats his coalition has in the previous parliament. However, his party Likud is expected to remain the largest single party, CNN reports.

Meanwhile, opposition parties against Netanyah are expected to secure a total of 65 seats, but are divided between the right arm, left and centre, as well as between the Jewish and Arab parties.

Eisenkot’s Yasar party is expected to win 21 seats, becoming the largest opposition force. However, forming a government by the opposition may depend on co-operation with Arab parties, which are expected to win 16 seats — a scenario that is not supported by all opposition leaders.

The vote count is expected to continue during the following days, while the final outcome will determine the possibilities for forming the new government.
