Trump calls Musk for Starlink in Ukraine, urges lifting restrictions

United States President Donald Trump has called billionaire Elon Musk, urging him to lift restrictions on using the Starlink satellite system from Ukraine, The Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday, citing American officials.

According to American and Ukrainian officials, the Starlink service has worked more normally after the conversation between Trump and Musk, although some Ukrainian officials have said the system has not yet been restored to full capacity.

Trump has expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that the speed of the system remained limited to about 100 miles per hour [160 km], the American newspaper writes.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Voldymyr Zelensky had declared earlier that Starlink’s speed had not yet returned to Ukraine, voicing hope for talks with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in the coming days.

Rubio had said Wednesday that the decisions on Ukraine’s approach to Starlink depend on SpaceX mother company and its executive director, Elon Musk, not the White House.

Ukraine relies on Starlink for communications on the battlefield and fears operations. Limitations on this satellite service have hampered Ukrainian surveillance missions, both in attacks and in air defense against Russia.
