Portuguese football player Diogo Jota’s wife, Rute Cardoso, has related painful nighttimes when her husband lost his life in a traffic accident along with his younger brother, Andre Silva.
In the biographic book “Diogo Yourta: Forever in Our Hearts, Rutte has discovered details of their last communication, as well as of moments when he realized that the footballer would not return home.
Yourta, who was only 28 years old, passed away only 11 days after her marriage to Ruten, with whom she was dating from childhood.
The tragic night, Diogo and his brother were traveling toward Santander in Spain to deliver the rented car and then to continue the ferry to Great Britain, where football player had to join Liverpool’s preparations. According to confession, the doctors had advised him not to fly after surgery.
A few minutes after the brothers left, Ruth sent her husband a message to wish him a good way. He replied by name, and she wrote: Take care on the street.
Those words took tragic meaning after the accident that claimed the lives of the two brothers.
Later that evening, Rutte wanted to send Diogos some videos from their wedding, but the message in Whatsapp was not sent. Even the other messages did not arrive, and the calls to him and Andre were unanswered.
Concerned, she contacted the hotel where the brothers had to spend the night but learned that they had not arrived. After trying to get information from the hospital and police, Rutte contacted her uncle Vitorin, who had contacts with the Spanish road police.
During a call, she heard the words that would remain in her memory forever: They’re transporting the troops. Shortly thereafter, a Spanish policeman officially confirmed the tragic news to him.
Rutte also confessed that on the way to the morgue, he asked the driver to cross the road where the accident had occurred. When they got to the 64th mile, the car’s remains were still there. She wanted to approach the scene but was stopped by a policeman.
