Svechla in Italy: Kosovo committed to fight drugs

Through a Facebook post, Svechla has announced that the meeting was held under the leadership of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Melon, with the participation of senior European representatives.

In my speech on behalf of the Republic of Kosovo, I reaffirmed our commitment to an approach that combines public security with public health protection. Through the State Strategy Against Drugs 20242028, we are strengthening preventive measures, treatment and rehabilitation, with particular attention to protecting young people and strengthening communities, Svechla wrote.

He has announced that the Joint Declaration has also been adopted during the meeting, through which political and institutional commitment has been reaffirmed for joint action in preventing drug use and youth protection.

Fighting drugs requires firm commitment against criminal networks but also support for those facing addiction. The results of the Kosovo Police, with 750 initialised cases and 961 suspects arrested during 2025, testify to our commitment to fighting this phenomenon, the minister stressed.

Svecla has added that Kosovo remains committed to deepening co-operation with European and international partners, through exchange of information and joint actions against organised crime.

Our goal is shared: protection of citizens, especially of young people, and building a safer, healthier and sustainable society for generations to come, has ended Svechla.
