The United States has ordered the departure of several diplomatic employees and family members from American missions in Saudi Arabia, while planning to withdraw staff members from several other missions in the region.

U.S. State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott stated that the departure of US government employees who are not engaged in emergency services, as well as their family members in Saudi Arabia, has been ordered. The decision comes in the wake of attacks by the rebels Houthi in Yemen, backed by Iran, on civilian targets in this country.

Iran-backed Houthi Movement has added to hostilities against Saudi Arabia, including attacks on civil airports and other critical infrastructure, which have caused civil casualties and major travel cuts, Pigott said.

Four US officials told Reuters that US missions in other Gulf states are also planning to order the evacuation of staff family members. However, Pygott did not elaborate on possible changes in missions outside Saudi Arabia.

The decision to withdraw personnel comes after the escalation of fighting in Yemen, opening another front in the post-war regional conflict between the United States, Israel and Iran. The broader conflict has hampered global energy trade and damaged Gulf countries economies.

After the evacuation order, Saudi Arabia civil aviation authorities reported an attack at the King Fahd International Airport in the town of Damam, where one person was killed and eight others injured.

Earlier in the day, two people were killed after Saudi air defence destroyed a fear trying to hit an object in the Shaybah oil field, owned by the state company Aramco, the Energy Ministry announced.

Meanwhile, the US Embassy in Riyadh issued a security alert Wednesday for the possibility of further attacks by Houthia on Saudi Arabia. The warning came after recent deadly attacks, including on Riyadh’s airport.

In early March, the US Embassy in Riyadh and a Central Intelligence Agency office ( The CIA, located there, was attacked with fear at a time when Iran had launched attacks in parts of the region.
