The First Lady of the United States, Melanie Trump, has secured a ceasefire agreement between Russia and Ukraine in the Russian-led town of Olesky, the White House has announced, reports BBC.
According to the White House, the ceasefire in this city, which is on the verge of a disaster due to food shortages, medicines and drinking water, will begin on 29 October.

Ukraine and Russia have confirmed the arrival of the agreement on evacuation of residents and sending humanitarian aid, declaring their forces will cease shooting on October 27th at 2300 GMT.
The White House statement says Melanie Trump and a representative have directly co-operated with Russian and Ukrainian leadership in determining the terms of the ceasefire.
Civil, non-military leaderships from both countries will co-operate to visit Olishkyt residents in their homes and determine the level of assistance they need, Melanie Trump has declared.
She added that residents who want to be evacuated will receive support and transport towards their preferred destination, whether in Russia or Ukraine.
The announcement is not specified how long the truce will last.
Ukrainian MP Davyd Arakhamia has declared it will soon launch an operation to unblock the city and surrounding areas, while Russian President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman has confirmed that the desired residents could leave.
Olishky was conquered by Russia during the early days of the extensive invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. City dwellers face food shortages, water, electricity, and medical services.
Before the war, the town had about 24 thousand inhabitants, while according to Ukrainian estimates, currently in the city and surrounding areas, about 6 thousand people, including 200 children, remain. / Source: BBC
