Greece’s Parliament has on Friday adopted a law banning the use of social networking platforms by children under the age of 15 under efforts to protect the health and security of minors.
The ban is expected to take effect on January 1st, 2027, providing platforms with time to prepare the mechanisms of verifying the age of users and to ensure protection of their privacy.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has said the platforms have about two and a half months to find ways to verify the age of users.
The Greek government aims to support parents in efforts to limit the overuse of social networks that can take time to sleep, concentration, and time with friends.
Greece is among the seven European Union countries that are seeking, in co-operation with the European Commission, a solution to verifying the age of users on digital platforms.
Australia was the first country to pass a law restricting the use of social networks by minors, while efforts to impose similar restrictions are continuing in other European countries. /Telegraphy/
