OpenAI has introduced a new function in Chat GPT, called aboard Chats (Indoor conversations), which enables users to protect private conversations from approaching other people.
Through this function, users can shift specific conversations to a particular space, where they do not appear in the common history, on the list of fixed conversations, or on the results of research. Conversations can only be opened through a code PIN in four digits or, on supported devices, through biometric authentication methods, such as Face ID and Touch ID.
The function aims to increase user privacy, especially in cases where they share equipment with other people or use ChatGPT in public environments.
However, OpenAI explains that the key to conversation does not mean encryption from end to end and does not create a particular encrypted space. Also, this function does not change the period of company chatkeeping, nor do the definitions of whether data can be used to improve its patterns.
Another important detail relates to the restoration of the PIN code. If users forget the code and choose to restore it, all locked conversations, the information stored only inside them and the files protected from the previous code will be deleted permanently. This action cannot be undone, nor can OpenAI support retrieve this data.
According to official company information, the function is gradually being distributed to ChatGPT users, including those with free accounts and project subscribers Go, Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprises and Eddu. He’s available on the web, on IOS and Android applications, and on the new app for MacOS and Windows computers.
Users can also use the function of voice conversation within networked conversations and telephone applications where this feature is available. Meanwhile, the conversations in the Codex and the local chats of Workk cannot be locked through this function.
OpenAI emphasises that the key serves to limit common access to conversations, but does not exclude them from legal obligations, safety regulations or data storage policies that can be implemented.
