Kosovo President Justina Shiroka Pula has called for Hungary’s support for advancing Kosovo towards the candidate country’s status for membership in the European Union, during meeting with Hungarian counterpart Androás Baka.
According to the presidency’s announcement, relations between the two states, the Kosovo European integration process, economic co-operation and security issues in the region were discussed at the meeting.
President Shiroka Pula praised relations between Kosovo and Hungary, recalling that Hungary was among the first countries to recognise Kosovo’s independence on 19 March 2008. It expressed interest in further deepening bilateral co-operation.
In this context, the president stressed the importance of identifying new areas of co-operation, especially in economics, education and defence.
Referring to European integration, Shiroka Pula stressed that membership in the European Union remains Kosovo’s strategic goal, so it called for Hungary’s support for the country’s advancement towards membership candidate status and for further steps of the integration process.
She also expressed gratitude for Hungary’s contribution to the KFOR mission in Kosovo, praising the importance of this contribution to maintaining security and stability.
At the end of the meeting, President Shiroka Pula invited the Hungarian counterpart to visit Kosovo at a time appropriate for both sides.
