Deputy Prime Minister and Justice Minister Donika Grovalla has called for full investigation into the Arlinda Zekaj case, stressing the need to clarify whether the responsible institutions have met their obligations for its defence.
Speaking in the Parliament, Gervala, who is also a national co-ordinator for protection from domestic violence and gender – based violence, said that when a woman loses her life after seeking help, all circumstances that have preceded tragedy should be considered.

She disclosed that she has requested official information from the Kosovo Police in the case, while at an extraordinary inter-institutional meeting, urgent verification of facts by competent institutions has been requested.
Gervala said that he has not left the meeting with the conviction that responsible institutions have fully carried out their task in accordance with the law.
It called for full review of the case, emergency review of active cases of violence in high-risk families, strengthening co-operation among institutions, and establishing a mechanism to analyse women’s killings.
The responsibility must be determined on the basis of the facts, and where the facts exist in violation, corresponding legal and disciplinary action must be taken, Gervala said.
She stressed that accountability should not be seen as an attack on institutions, but as a condition for their functioning and ensuring the safety of the victims.
In the end, the minister called on competent institutions to act with urgency and responsibility, underlining that life protection must be testified to by concrete actions and not only by statements.
