Touched screens on modern cars may pose a serious risk to traffic safety, as they distract drivers and turn their attention away.

According to a research by the Allianz Insurance Technology Centre, distractions from digital screens influenced the safety of driving more than the presence of alcohol in blood.

The study, presented during the Allianz Motor 2026 event, analysed more than 34 thousand traffic accidents, as well as the results of tests on driving simulations and scientific studies on driver distractions.

According to the findings, turning your eyes off the road for more than two seconds is linked to significant increase in risk for an accident.

The problem becomes even greater when the basic functions of the car, such as temperature and radio, are checked through screens that require touch and navigation on the menu.

In tests carried out in simulators, the change was particularly evident in situations that required rapid reaction.

In the scenario of the sudden expressive on the highway, the collisions occurred at 18.2 percent of the drivers ‘ concentrations, and this percentage rose to 54.3 percent when they were distracted.

Even in a scenario when a child suddenly appears on the street, the clashes rose from 3.9 to 11.2 percent. In 39 percent of the scenario, distracted drivers did not react at all.

Researchers compared the results to driving simulations under the influence of alcohol, with a concentration of 0.8 billion in blood.

In all four tested scenarios, distracted drivers had weaker results. However, these results belong to specific simulations and do not mean that any use of the screen is more dangerous than driving under the influence of alcohol. /Telegraphy/
